I am actually kinda surprised a GTI did not get a feature on my channel already. They are just about the most affordable way to get into that hot hatch game, and I see them all the time at cars and coffee. It finally happened with this MK6!

Upon driving it I was amazed by a great many things, one of which is the torque the car produces. Undoubtedly helped by the APR Stage 2 tune that graced this car’s computer.

What do you think about the GTI?

I really liked the mk7 that I drove. It handled well, was very quick, power was smooth, and the interior was a very nice place to be. I didn’t like the torque steer though which was my main motivation for going STi. Yeah I ended up with a sedan and would rather have a hatch but it’s not like I need the practicality anyways. I know for sure though if I ever want something “more comfortable and fuel efficient” the GTI would 100% be my first choice. I still want to try the MS3 and Focus ST/RS but I think those would be in the same (lack of) refinement category as the Subaru. A tastefully modified GTI with some sticky tires, probably a sway bar mod, and a decent tune would probably make me very happy. I should probably consider the golf R instead since I do really like AWD as opposed to wrong wheel drive.

They’re alright I guess, not like mine’s my favorite car I’ve ever owned or anything.

I haven’t driven a MK7 GTI yet, but one thing I do know that torque steer in the MK6 is almost none existent when comparing it to the Focus ST I drove. It just tracked straight out of the gate. That ST was holy torque steer batman!

I have driven and reviewed an APR Stage II Golf R with the DCT, and it was one quick car! I loved it!

I hadn’t driven anything with decent power and FWD. And I’m used to my Miata as my only car. It was never apparent in a straight line. It annoyed me while accelerating in a turn. I’m used to that meaning more turn in rather than more tire spin. And I still get that with my STi. In a straight line I just couldn’t put down power though, same as in your video even with stock power. Burnouts can be fun but they get old after the first few. I enjoy that even on loose surfaces the Subaru can put down stupid power.

I like my MK6 but I must say before reaching 70k it’s had more major problems than all 3 of my MINIs combined.

Water pump

Turbo

Clutch (mostly original owner’s fault)

Intake

And just noticed a wheel bearing is going bad.

I believe the owner is working on his water pump right now. I don’t know if he had any major issues. It ran pretty darn good for a car with 140K miles on it.

Hoping mine will last that long, original owner hardly drove it at all. Wasn’t 2013 the last year of MK6 and MK6 was only slightly changed from MK5? Should have had most of the bugs worked out by then.

My boss has a MK7 with APR2 which he quite likes. I do like the golf ball shifter a little better but overall I like the MK6 a little better.

I believe the US got the MK7 in 2015. APR2 Golf R’s are nuts. I bet the MK7 GTI’s with APR2 are quick as well! I really wonder how much quicker though. The MK6 is about on par with my mustang, the Mustang getting it out of the hole due to the grip. I do think the APR2 MK6 GTI has more top end. Don’t ask me how I know.
